Well it went according to plan, carb is super clean, original jets sizes, needle on slot 3 and mixtures set to 2.5 front and 2.75 rear. Result is she idles well, repsonsive throttle, revs drop back quickly and pulls through all gears.
I did replace the carb to mainfold clamps with jubilee clips because the originals are rubbish. The bolt length really restricts where you can place them which just means possible air leak if not tightened enough. Tested all over with carb spray and revs stayed steady so no damage to the super rare and expensive intake manifolds.
The air box is a sod, as everyone says, but not too much of a nightmare. Take it out and back in from the left and tilt carbs to the left to help align the air funnels.
To treat the bike, since carbs are super clean, I have ordered a new air filter from Marcel which should be here start of the week.
Very happy man with a very happy bike. 😀
Now I will run her for a bit, check plug colour and adjust as needed – as per Alan’s advice.
What a nightmare, no wonder you are talking about cliffs. Must have driven you nuts. Well done for sticking with it and not torching the bike.
What advice did Marcel give that eventually fixed it?
Hi and welcome.
Lovely looking GV125 with lots of very tasty extras. Well done and glad to see her running as she should.
A multimeter is a wonderful tool. Most people would of replaced the rectifier, then the ignition coils, then cdi and then the stator with pick up coil. They would never of known it was just the pick up and have travelled a very expensive journey. No spark can be such a pain.
Hi Marcel. Thank you, the Acorn, pilot jets and bungs all arrived from you today. Really quick delivery and have arrived before my main jets from MPW.
Settings I have gone for are all back to standard with 87.5 main jets front and rear, 15 pilot and #3 (middle) notch on needle. Fiqure it is best to get to back to factory settings before I consider modifying things.
New acorn has gone in without snapping :-P. Will know if it has all worked in a couple of days.
Hi Alan, thanks. I found your post from this time last year and mine where also set to different heights. #4 on front and #5 on back.
I will set at #3, based on your comment, your post and the needle mod posts. I figured that the extra notches would be where the black lines are in photo below. They seem to match up very well with your photo.

I am very glad I did not buy any needles.
Looking at the main jet mod posts my bike had a 3 size increase from 87.5 to 95 so it is no surprise the bike was boggy. Probably why the previous owner apparently stopped using it before he passed away.
Once again, thank you.
I am no expert either but I would check these. Because bad cylinder fires up when you increase throttle I would not think it is piston or rings. But I would check compression anyway. My gut says fuel or spark.
Pull sparks and look at colour and put new ones in.
See if you have spark on the bad cylinder by removing both and grounding tips against engine (bare metal) and turning over engine.
I would also check battery voltage when engine off (12.4v ish) and then check voltage with engine at high idle 1800rpm (14v +). Might not have enough electrical juice at idle, but spark test will show that.
If you have no spark then test coils. An easy check just swap them over (literally swap them not just leads to spark plug) and see if fault follows coil. If it does it could just be the lead or cap You can often solve that by removing cap from lead, chopping a 1cm off lead and replacing cap on lead.
Doubt it is rectifier as one cylinder is good.
If spark good then I would look to fuel.
Doubt it is fuel lines or pump as fires up fine with throttle. Pilot jet on bad cylinder or float blocked. Just give it a good clean.
A split or cracked intake can also mess up idle, spray carb cleaner (combustable type) on inlet rubbers when idling and see if that makes her fire.
After that I would start scratching my head. Hopefully Marcel sees your post and can solve this one.
Good luck and tell us how you get on.
David, I love it. Good colour too. Enjoy your new toy.
I have read good things about the new GV and people seem to love the bobber looks. I agree with dufferdave, look after it and it will give you what you want. Smaller cc bikes are often bought and not given care, services skipped, left in the rain, heavily modified and then ragged. Then the owner moans about how it keeps letting them down.
You are used to good machines that means you must know what to do to keep them running. It is the owner that makes the difference.
Hyosung have a good name overall and a good resale price, I think you bought wisely.
Hi Rikki and welcome, I am new here also. Very quiet round here.
The GT650r 2018 is a beautiful bike, rather envious but that size is next year after DAS course. The R is a good choice with full fairing.
What colour have you gone for? I am rather taken with the red myself.
