Hi Luke, have you checked the operation of the choke could it be it’s stuck in the on position! when I got my bike the choke seemed to have no effect when I pulled it on, when I checked it out the choke cable going to the carb was not operating correctly, just a thought as yours is obviously running too rich. Also when you had the carb’s off did you check the float levels?

Hi Marcel, just a couple of questions.
- The petcock on the tank is stuck solid in the off position, tried to move it but it wouldn’t budge didn’t want to force it too much just in case I damaged it. Any suggestions.
- Can you open the fuel pump to clean it and if so what’s the procedure.

Located on the right hand side of the carb, first picture shows the carb’s with one cover removed, second picture is of the needle slider removed from carb the is also a spring under each cover (not shown) the needle slides up and down in the main jet, the needle is tapered so as it rises it allows more fuel to enter. Check to make it slides freely without sticking also check the diaphragm (black rubber part on top of the slider picture one) for damage split’s etc. This can all be done with the carb’s in situ.


You said it starts and idles and low end power is good! Idle and low end is on the pilot jet as you open the throttle the main jet’s come into play, have you checked the operation of the needle slider, is it sliding smoothly and not sticking?
Wow that’s a lot of cracking, a simple test is to get a can of carb cleaner and while the engine is running spray some carb cleaner at the intake manifold, if the engine revs rise when you spray the carb cleaner you have a leak.
Simple test on the charging system is to put a volt meter on the battery and check the voltage with everything switched off you should be getting over 12 volts, turn on ignition voltage should drop, start engine you should be getting 14 volts at idle, rev to 5k rpm you should be getting between 14.5 and 15 volts.
Then it could be a vacuum leak, check all your lines for fit and condition. I would do this before tackling the inlet manifolds, although cracks may be visible they could be just surface cracks but check all your line’s first.
Have you checked your charging system?

Have you tried pulling on the choke when it starts to big down? If it picks up with choke on then it’s a fueling issue.
Hi guys, I removed the airbox from my GV 125 the other day as the carb’s had to come back out to be cleaned again. I found getting the airbox off not too difficult when I did it the first time and again the other day.
I removed all of the air intake and air filter housing from the right hand side, I also dropped the brace holding the coil packs on the left hand side. Once I loosened the clamp’s holding the airbox onto the carburettor I got a hand either side of the airbox and gently “wiggle” it off the carb’s then keeping some downward pressure on the carb’s I slid the airbox forward, once the rear rear intake had passed the rear carb I was able to pull the airbox out sideways. One other thing, on mine the wiring harness ran between the underside of the frame and the channel in the airbox release the cable ties and pull the harness to one side this will give you a little more room when trying to lift the airbox off the carb’s and as Marcel has said be very careful with the intake manifolds.
Now as I said I have done this twice and after reading so many articles about how difficult it was I wasn’t looking forward to doing it however I did it without too much difficulty.
But there is a but, it was an absolute nightmare getting the airbox back in after I had cleaned the carb’s the first time. The main problem was getting the rear airbox/carb coupling back in place and slide over the carb, it took many attempts and a lot of bad language 😄😄
I have a couple of ideas on how to improve the refit process and as soon as I have finished cleaning the carb’s I will try different options and let you know how I get on.👍

Hi Marcel, Happy New Year to you and I hope you are keeping safe and well.
- I finally got around to removing the carburettors again today to strip down and clean, the bike has not been run since I changed the main jet’s back in November. But when I started to strip the carb’s today there seemed to be a very slight trace of oil in the carb’s!!!
- Now I did put a fuel additive in the tank when I did the upgrades (jet’s, fuel filter, fuel lines etc) back in November which I regretted as soon as I had done it so I’m not sure if it’s that that I am seeing.
What are your thoughts as what it could be, I don’t think it could be ring’s as the bike was running ok before the upgrades and there is only 1,300 Kms on her !!!
Thanks Ben, as you and Marcel agree that POD’s do not work on these machines it looks like I’m stuck with the airbox. It was worth asking the asking the question now I can just forget about it. 👍
Hi Marcel, it’s not increased air flow/volume I’m looking for it’s an easier option for removing the carb’s for servicing other than having to remove that airbox which is a nightmare to remove and refit. But it looks like I’m stuck with it as you have a lot more experience and knowledge of the GV than I have.👍
Hi Ben, yeah I’ve been thinking about getting rid of the airbox altogether and putting on individual pods (2) with pipes going to each carb. I had to remove my carb’s to clean them and it was a real pain in the arse getting that airbox out and even more difficult to get it back in again. Now I have to take the carb’s out again so not looking forward to that.😔 However I have been told that the GV125 does not like running on POD’s and it is better to keep the airbox, but if you need to remove the carb’s regularly as you do for maintenance having POD’s would make the task so much easier.
How is your bike performing on the Pod?
No sorry they are black I’m afraid.
