The oil filter is designed to protect your engine by trapping flying debris / metal shavings from the oil. A clogged filter can quickly prevent your engine form being properly lubricated. That’s why it matters so much to change it at every oil change , which is usually around 1,000-1,200 miles at ideal. Although it would survive much longer but we wouldn’t take that chance.
