Hmm okay, I’ll definitely have to work my way through that list. I can say when I first got the bike it ran pretty rough and slow. Almost completely cutting out one cylinder. It did have really old fuel in it but after I put fresh fuel in and some injector cleaner it brought it up to where it is now. I’ve still got more injector cleaner so I’ll run the rest of that through and see if it helps. The pump sounds strong but a 25 year \ 25,000km old pump probably could do with a change. New injectors probably isn’t a bad idea either.
I’ll report back with all my findings after I test everything.
I did pull apart the carbs to clean them, I didn’t really pay attention to the jet sizings (probably should have) but they looked old enough to be original. (44,000km bike) The air filter was new but definitely not a performance one. I assume stock gearing aswell. As the previous owner really kept this bike original. I unfortunately just sold this bike so can’t do any more investigating.
My EFI does say 2010 on the chassis, I’m at work atm so can’t remember what ecu I have, the only marking on it I remember is S&T. I will update once I get home. But I do remember reading these ECUs are untunable but the Delphi ones can be flash tuned and some people offer the service. Or I might even look at a power commander to add some extra oomph. The only “performance” mod on my EFI is a moshimoto muffler. But I’ll cross that bridge if the service and checks don’t bring the power up to what I’m happy with.
Definitely will keep everyone posted
Okay so thought I should update this as I figured it out. I watched some videos online of someone pulling apart a 250 and their shock looked exactly the same as mine. So I went and sussed more 250s and yep same shock n spring. So some genius as put a 250 shock in my 650. That’s why it’s bottomed out and feels like ass. Swapped in another 650 sock and all my problems go away and feels great now. Even maybe too high…
TLDR: there was a 250 shock in my 650

It’s an 06 not an 08. I don’t know if that makes a difference but yeah. I also had my brother to bring his 2010 gt650s over. The half naked ones with the upright seating position. This photo is of his shock. Another loose wound coil…. I’m beginning to think mine has been swapped out at some stage.
The Y-Bones all look the same and I cant tell they are bent. The bit that bolts over massive cast alloy piece?
The kick stands are all the same length and where it bolts onto looks the same and I don’t see any obvious damage or bending. I still need to get a paddock stand and measure the angles tho.
I don’t see any damage to the swing arms or just anywhere really. They all look good.
Even the shock themselves look the same its just the spring that’s differentIs it worth buying a genuine new shock online? I can get a NOS one for about $230 AUD delivered.

I’m also keen on the tune mate! Hopefully you’re still active here
I’ve already done that, I physically cannot move it further inwards or rotate it further down
Thankyou for your reply! It’s definitely eased alot of my worries! Don’t worry everything you said makes sense to me.
1. I’ll order a new clutch kit and bearing then and inspect the basket when I install. Hoping the basket is okay tho. The clutch did need alot of work to get to stop dragging when I first got it so fingers crossed it’s just the plates.
2. Ah yes I’ve seen them before, thankyou.
3. Okay seems to be normal for this bike then, as my ninja 650 had no where near as much air movement that’s what got me worried too
4. Yeah is slows down and get up going smoothly, maybe a slight hesitation or hiccup when accelerating from cruising but taking off and “flooring it” is very consistent.
Havnt noticed anything weird with the dash, the tacho has behaved normally and in accordance to what the bikes doing from what I’ve seen.
It’s hard to explain, it just doesn’t feel at full power. Like 3\4. I’m thinking keep running better fuel in it and I’ve still got about 3 tanks of injector cleaner to go. See if it slowly gets better or if not I might replace the injectors, pump and filters and clean out the lines and tank. As a last resort -
