Just thought I’d post an update on my problem…
I managed to find a complete wiring harnass for my bike (same year and similar milage) on eBay for Β£80, so thought I’d take a punt on it…
It came with the ECU, both coils, the rectifier, fuse box and all of the relays… My thoughts were to swap out bits piece by piece to see if I could narrow down where the problem lied…
I started with the ECU as it was the most accessable part at the time (I already had the old unit disconnected from my old harnass)… And f**k me, the bike turned over straight away with both cylinders purring like a mofo!… I nearly did a little sex wee when I heard that familiar growl…
Just to make sure, I reconnected my old ECU, and sure as damn it the ol’ girl sounded like a wet fart after a night on Guinness!… Popped the new ECU back in… Purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr… B-E-A-Utiful!!!
So, I’m guessing I fried the old ECU somehow when I pulled the HT-Lead months ago…
It’s been 2 days now, and I’ve done around 150 miles and she still sounds as sexy as she did the day I took ownership.
Atleast now I have a few spares just in case anything else decides to give up the ghost.
Get a picture of the regulator itself, and copy any part numbers written to it. And also post a second picture showing us what the plugs look like. The regulator will say 14v idling (both cylinders need to fire first though so engine runs properly) and 15v max around 15k revs at the battery terminals. If the reg is good, wonderful. Consider pimping the unit later on. I will know what to get based on what visuals you send me on here. Stator tests = Your stator is fine. Itβs too healthy to worry about it now.

The plug on the left is from the rear cylinder
*EDIT* Also, I canβt seem to locate the regulator/rectifierβ¦ If Iβm honest, Iβm not quite sure what Iβm supposed to be looking forβ¦ My bro-in-law doesnβt either
My bad, found it… Is there a test to see if the rectifier is at fault?
Ok, I’ve just popped down and took some readings with my multimeter set to 200ohm.
So, assuming I got the correct plugs (I left them plugged in is that right?), Part 1 test (Blue and Green wires): 106.6
Part 2 test: A: 00.8, B: 00.8, C: 00.8
Also, I can’t seem to locate the regulator/rectifier… If I’m honest, I’m not quite sure what I’m supposed to be looking for… My bro-in-law doesn’t either π
Thanks for the reply Marcel,
My brother-in-law has just been to have a look at it, he’s a car mechanic with little experience working on bikes, he thinks it could be the Stator?
I’m guessing I’m going to struggle finding a new one that fits a ’21 plate π₯
Doesn’t matter, I’ve sorted it now. I just disconnected the unit from the wiring harness and left it unplugged for 10 minutes, plugged it back in and it seems to have recalibrated itself…
Sooo, I’ve ordered the 520 upgrade kit π
I’ve just had a proper look at my bike and it actually doesn’t seem that difficult tbf π I thought I’d have to drain fluids and all sorts… But it really does just look like a plug and play install!
I think the only thing that I’m a bit unsure on is the chain tension after fitting the kit.Actually… I’ve just seen 20-30mm slack… So I should be all good! π€£
Yeah, I’m going to have a go at it myself. I do have some mechanical knowledge working on cars over the last 20 years or so, but this would be the first time working on a Bike. My brother-in-law is a mechanic, so if I mess anything up he’s always there to step in I guess… But ideally I’d like to complete it on my own, just so I can say ‘I did that!’…
Seeing as there is little information available for the GV125S, I was thinking of recording a video of the whole process for other would-be modders to follow. I’d just like to be prepared before the kit arrives, with the right tools and such. I assume I’m going to need a chain breaker and a socket set at the very least…
A draft tutorial would be most helpful if you have the time to square one up?
Thanks Marcel in advance
The GV125S has a gear indicator already. Just posh the mode button a few times and one of the screens has your gear
Yeah, just figured that out as I was checking out my new ride!… Thanks for confirming tthough! π
Hi marcel,
Thanks for the reply! My bike should arrive on saturday afternoon, and I ‘m so excited! π I’ll most certainly be posting pics after I’ve had a long play on it!
I think I’ll wait until it’s actually in my possession before I start ordering parts for it. I may not even need a gear indicator, I just thought it would help me get used to riding with one. But I guess it will just come naturally once I get to grips with it.
I do plan however on doing the 520 upgrade asap… I don’t suppose you know of anywhere I can grab a service manual for the GV125S-EFI? All the ones I can find online seem to be the older Carb models π
