Thanks for the reply Marcel. Yes its very strange situation, I can only think the previous owner gave the tail light quite a wack to break all three plastic lugs.
By the way I did take a photo but when I clicked add media it come up with a completely different set of pictures that were not mine. The workaround looked a bit technical so abandoned the idea. The light unit is back on the bike now anyway and the gap at the top is only about 5mm so hopefully will fill with the sealant OK.
Just found on Ebay for Β£3.05 =
BLACK Silicone RTV Instant Gasket Rubber Sealant Waterproof Adhesive 40g Tube
I’ll give it a try.
I think I’ve solved the mystery of why the tail light gssket was not fitted. Ive taken the light assembly off and its been damaged. All three bolts have been broken and fixed/ glued back on with body filler. The problem is that one or more bolts are angled incorrectly and consequently the light unit can’t be pulled tight to the shape of the mudguard. Therefore the gasket won’t sit tight as there is a small gap.
Im reluctant to tighted the nuts up excessively as the pressure may damage the bolts again.
Although I’m not sure if it will work, I’m thinking of using a black rubber sealant to fill the gap. Any ideas as to what would be the best product to use ?
Thanks again Marcel for the advice.
Thanks for the advice and information. Yes I did notice that the O rings are not supplied which is a bit stingy when you consider the costs involved. My bike has only covered 40 miles since new so the oil ring shouldn’t need replacing. I’m just taking your advice as its stood unused for over a year.
When I got the bike home,Β I found a rubber gasket hanging on the handlebar mirror. I’ve now found out that it belongs to the rear light assembly. Why the previous owner found it necessary to remove the light and then replace it without the gasket is a mystery. Once I have the battery charged, I’ll check if the rear and brake lights are working correctly. In any event I shall have ti take the whole assembly off to replace it properly with the gasket installed. Strange eh ?
Funds are a bit short at the moment so I’ll give the battery a quick boost with my car charger, its only a small one and of course I’ll disconnect the poz terminal and keep my eye on it. I will certainly buy the Dr Bike charger when funds improve. Will it be OK to keep itΒ trickle charging with the battery connected or should I take off the poz terminal ?
Thanks again for your help and time Marcel.
Regards John
The Hiflow HF131 is confirmed as the correct one and I have purchased off eBay for Β£8.64. Thanks again Daniel.
Thanks Daniel, very helpful. Regards John
Hi
Finally getting round to using the bike for the first time, insured and taxed but taking advice and changing oil & filter first. What is the best filter to use ? There are so many on eBay. Are they specific to year and model (my GV 250 is a 2016 efi model) because most have the same number HF131.
Also I need to charge the battery, I assume my ordinary 12v car charger will do the job. Is it OK to charge itΒ on the bike or should I disconnect the terminals first. I don’t want to do anything that might damage the ECU as I know that is an expensive box of tricks.
Sorry that these are simple basic questions but I’m new to all this and your advice would be appreciated.
Just downloaded the GT250 EFiService Marcel and that’s exactly what I need, thank you, saved a few quid lol. I’m not a mechanic by any means but can do the simple service jobs as long as I have a manual to follow. Now I have thanks to you.
Hi, It would be better to drain old gasoline if there is any left
.
Thanks Daniel, As I said to Marcel, I know the fuel is fresh but thanks for your advice.
Hello Chelsea, welcome to the site!
Iβll start of by saying I always fancied a go on a norton bike, few years ago i was involved in a shed built cafe-racer type project. I had sold the honda anyway! fun times. Aquila 250s are quite punchy & honest vtwins compared to the Ninja 250s (which Americans think its a fast bike haha). Congrats on your purchase, I would also look in servicing the whole bike myself if it was stood for sometime! Fresh oil, fresh fuel, filters & the usual TLC goes many miles away. For GV250 service books in PDF. Have a look on this link below: https://hyoriders.club/forums/topic/download-gv125-gv250-aquila-mirage-service-manuals-hyosung-owners-books/ Let me know if that book helps, I got many PDF files uploaded to the website. Still got more to do Also GT250-EFi/Ei also shares the same engine as the Aquila250 so it uses the same electrics (in most places anyway)[/quote
Hi Marcel
Thank you for coming back to me. I enjoyed riding the Norton’s and am looking forward to riding this Aquila GV250. Just need to tax and insure it. I know the previous owner did put fresh fuel in to demonstrate it running, but I take on board all the other things you say I should do.
I had already clicked the link you sent but that covers the owners manual, which I already have in book form. I’ll have a look at the GT250 because if its the same engine and wiring, then that will do fine. Thank you again
