The valve clearance should be the following:
IN: 0.7mm – 0.9mm
EX: 0.10mm – 0.12mm
Torque of cylinder head cover: 20NmDifficulty Level: Medium
Important: Clean the motorcycle from dirt so that no sand or other foreign matter can get into the engine, work cleanly make sure that nothing falls into the engine and that nothing is forgotten inside.
Remove the plastic parts above the cover on the left cylinder and disconnect both spark plug connectors. Remove the screws from the cylinder head cover. Remove both cylinder head cover.
There are two different ways to turn the motor:
1. Engage 5th gear and push the motorcycle forward, the engine will turn with slight resistance. Set it back to neutral without the engine turning further (my favorite)
2. Open the two covers on the side and turn the motor by hand with the ratchet
you can also remove the spark plugs so that it no longer has resistance when turning the engine.
You can look at the markings or turn the engine until all the drag lever of one cylinder can be moved up and down by hand, has clearance.
Important the two cylinders do not have the same inlet outlet sides, the drag lever are marked with EX / IN
The filler gauge can be used to determine the clearance, if it is out of tolerances it must be adjusted, rather too much clearance than too little, because depending on the valves work themselves into the cylinder head and so the clearance becomes even tighter with ongoing mileage.
if the clearance needs to be adjusted, open the nut, take the feeler gauge, adjust it so that it goes back and forth with little resistance, pull the drag lever up by hand while checking, the valve clearance can be measured more accurately this way, block the nut again. when tightening, the pin also turns a little, it is a feeling thing and it takes time.
Check again the valve clearance that it fits within the tolerance, if so the next can be made.
Both cylinders have offset timing, therefore the engine must be rotated on the right cylinder so that the valve clearance can also be measured.
When you are done, turn the engine again a few times and check that the springs of the valves relax and that the drag levers can be moved by hand when they are not under pressure.
You can put a little engine oil on the drag and on the valve and you can reassemble the whole thing in reverse order.
congratulations the valve clearance was successfully adjusted 😎
