      Hi new to the forum so hello all.

      I have a strange electrical problem if I put the key in the ignition it controls all light up .the engine fires and runs .but then if I turn it off then back on nothing no electrics nothing can any one help .oh the bike is a 2003 gv125

      Hi,

      That sounds odd, just few queries to get a bigger picture.

      • So everything works fine when running? The horn, lights all work?
      • Can the bike be riden normally right through the rev range?
      • When running, if you stall the motor, will the dash still stay on and let you start again?
      • Will it start after a certain amount of time has passed or if you take the key out and try a few times?
      • When you say turn off – do you mean use the kill switch to turn the motor off, or do you mean turn the key off?
      • Will it let you kill the bike with the kill switch and then start again or does the dash switch off when the bike dies?

      Hi yes everything works as it should .all electronics work .engine runs fine .can be ridden . Then if you turn it off by the key and then turn it back on .nothing. then it takes about 10 minutes till it comes back to life .taking the battery off and re installing does nothing

      I would say a connection but I’m leaning towards a faulty relay.

      I’m not referring to the starter solenoid but to the relays near the fuses, not sure if you have checked them.

      Because the only way the bike gets power to the dash is via:

      • Fuse/Relay box = as per simon
      • Ignition Barrel  (even its wires) =
        HOWEVER, if the mechanism inside the “key barrel” acts intermittent, it will translate to power cuts instantly
      • The entire loom itself may need investigating because if there is a “shortt” anywhere inside the cables fraying or touching exposed inside the tape jacket
        OR
        The 1 cable somewhere is touching the frame, that will instantly turn the bike off and possibly blow the fuse too

       

       

      However, if the “rear”  and “front” lights stay  on ,  and the dash stays “off”, then investigate the dash area and its mini loom that tries to join the main skeleton harness.  Just a little heads up.
