Hey all, I’m currently looking at some older Mirage 250/GV250 for purchase. I can’t really find much info on the internet, but according to “Namu Wiki,” the pre-2005 Mirages had some electrical issues, but don’t cite any references. The bikes I’m looking atm are pre-2005 GV250s so this is kinda relevant. Anyone have any info regarding this by any chance? thanks! (I’m located in Korea atm if it makes a difference)

Welcome!
We have a few Koreans on the forum, one of them was helping us test many mods on this shop 🙂 , he has a GV300S now. You might meet him where you are by random chance haha.
The early 2005 GV models and ALL OF THEM until 2020, replace these parts right away:
- Regulator. It burns too much. Outsourced part, so Hyosung doesn’t make them
Check these parts (caution)
- Fuel Gauge – Check the sender inside the tank, sometimes it gets sticky
- Fuel Gauge DISPLAY – If the sender is working, check front of bike MPH/KMH gauge to make sure the “fuel level” sensor is 0 (zero) when bike is switched off and if the tank is half full, the needle will be about half full, this confirms everything is working.
- Spark Plug HT Caps = Use NGK ones , because the OEM black ones fail due to heat or sparks also leak! , we use NGK caps like you see in our store and do not worry about it.
- If possible, strip the bike down => Use “ACF50” (only this bottle) => Inside EVERY “connector” you see on the bike, this will help stop connector pins for various electrics from rotting due to harsh winters , rain , oxidizations etc…
(Hyosung started using waterproof connectors on GV300S models, as they were aware of it)
If you want to hide more plugs from weather exposure => Get “SUZUKI HARNESS BOOT” , it hides your plugs/connectors all over the bike (Hyosung uses them , but not enough!!)
Good electric parts
- Stator , if it is black then it is OEM, it lasts a good long time with a good upgraded regulator but you must test it to verify it isn’t “over supplying voltages” or “wires do not have too much resistance”
- Dashboard works well most of the time, as long as it is not cracked or damaged , then no water will ruin the circuits but check for rust under the dashboard!
Regulator is the most important upgrade. And do NOT use Aliexpress versions, they are much worse than Korea made version. Do not worry, older Honda CBR also has regulator problems , even old suzuki bikes used to melt their connectors for regulators!

Thanks a bunch! That’s extremely useful to know once I upgrade my current 125cc to- likely- a 2000s era Mirage.
(btw, American here in Korea)

Also, if the regulator needs to be replaced, which brand should the it be replaced with? Thanks!

We use Shingdens for EFI , they are most recommended, most reliable, that’s all you see in this shop for EFi , just also involves custom plugs being made also. Shingden is Japan.

Thanks again! Buying a 2017 GV250 tonight. I noticed somewhere on this that they’re selling aftermarket regulators, but its only for use up to the 2015 model, since the 2016+ models have “different big connectors”. Would the 2017 need a different regulator? If so, which? thanks again!
Also, any sources on owner’s/service manuals for the bike? manualslib.com has one, but over half of the pages on the pdf are empty.

Don’t worry i am already planning a stator upgrade and japan mosfet rectifier upgrade , just send me an email below this site. I found the connectors , so i will probably be the first to do it nicely 😀 , I won’t give up.
Generally the pre-2017 but post-2015 manual is OK – It is still delphi with slight changes to the harness and connectors but the principle for all delphi GV250 is the same until 2017
2018-2020 – GV250 DR is too rare and totally different bike. 2020+ GV250 DRA Japan model , is a totally different model that shares nothing from the past (except cylinder heads thats all!)

Cool! I’ve been racking my brain trying to find which regulators work for it. It seems like the 2015-2017 gv250’s experienced the same changes, but every site I’ve been on regarding aftermarket regulators only are good for, at best, the 2010-2016 models, with none being mentioned for the 2017. According to a few Korean sites I’ve been on, apparently, the GN250n (called the Mirage in Korea) stopped production in 2017 for the Korean market, and started production of the gv250dr between 2017-2020, when production stopped all together for the “Mirage.” So when sourcing parts, can I assume or treat it like a 2016, since I’m guessing that’s the final year they made the GV250 for the international market? Is there maybe an adaptor? Idk- also, the motorcycle has around 19,000 km on it when I got it, without the regulator needing replacing from my knowledge, so is it still a msut to replace it, or can I hope I got lucky?
Thanks!

As you are aware , this shop sells stator and regulator kits up to 2016 but we will make a special kit for your model. Exactly what you see in the 2016 pages , we will make the 2017-2018 era because they use different terminals and different stators indeed. Just send an email ready
There isn’t an aftermarket kit for 2017+ models , so I would be surprised if another shop beat us to it.
Otherwise, if wanting to stay OEM , you can always buy another OEM regulator from your local dealer and keep it spare , always watch for voltage changes and always test stator unit.
