Jul 5, 2025 at 9:22 AM #19915Bike Model = : GV650*issue no spark but does crank*Hi all,Chasing electrical gremlins in my quest to get this GV650 running.When turn the ignition on, i get the generic che message. If you flip the killswitch back and forth a bunch it seems to reset for a bit.Flicking the killswitch does turn on the fuel pump but you cant hear any relays clicking. Kickstand switch works, dont hear the relay click regardless of it being bridged or clicked manually.I did briefly hear relays click intermittently when clicking the killswitch today but it stopped doing so (right as i got the side panel off
) battery had been in use for quite a bit by then so its possible it had gotten too low to continue.Relays have been tested manually and click when 12v is applied.12v Observed at coils, drops to 10v when cranking. Primary and secondary coils read fine resistance wise.Any advice in chasing this down would be appreciated. -

2010 EFi – I assume Daewoo ECU but does it have a /_\ triangle logo on it? Then it could be mitsubishi.
Are you able to click “Add Media” on your next reply and attach a picture of the ECU? I could pull up some instructions on how to get error codes from the ECU based on the ECU
(If picture uploads are an issue with your device, tell me if its Android or iPhone , what error message it says if forum fails to grab the image off your phone or tablet etc)Check resistance primary and secondary of the coils? what values are they?
Also check HT Cap isnt cracked or damage but be suspicious of them not sending sparks , it does happen and we usually switch to NGK caps. If coil actually gets power to them, then sparks must come out.
Check Stator Pickup coil resistance and their plugs (or check stator isn’t fried inside but drain oil 1st)
You want to be sure every connector on the bike is thoroughly cleaned and all contacts work , so there is no dead signal on the wire that the ECU is waiting to recieve or send down the line. (Damaged internal/ Shorting wire?)
let us know!

It is in fact a daewoo ECU annnnd apparently it awful condition. If i’ve followed the diagram right i think the broken pin is D3 for the brake lights (which don’t work so that would make sense). I’m sure this is done for but im going to try and clean the connector and pins anyway and see where I get. Couldnt get worse at this point could it?
EDIT: I was infact reading the wrong wiring diagram for the GT not the GV. This pin should go to the starter relay, clutch switch and ‘filter’. Bike cranks though, a previous owner has spliced 12v into the harness and I’m guessing it was to bypass this and get the starter relay going.

I can see the ECU plug has gone funny, so try to clean it with contact cleaner but NO LIQUIDS on the ECU itself. It would be miraculous if you found a brand daewoo ECU again. Daewoo for 650 & 250 have historically been sensetive ECU’s and most difficult to acquire.
While its apart, you would also want to go over the harness like a fine tooth comb.

I appreciate the advice! I haven’t gone over the whole harness yet but did go and test individual components after giving it a clean. I definitely think the pin for the starter relay system on the ECU is being bypassed. It would explain why I get the ‘che’ message on the display regardless of what position its in since the ecu isn’t getting a signal when the kill switch is used without it.
In regards to the ignition system, resistance wise the ignition coils checked out okay but I’ll probably replace them anyway. Stator is out of spec at 0.8ohm instead of 0.2-0.4ohm. Similarly, the pickup coil is out of spec at 182ohm instead of 110-140ohm so I think both are toast. The pickup coil does send voltage out of the connector but it i couldn’t observe go higher then 009.7mv which as far as I’m aware isn’t enough voltage to do anything worth a damn. Rectifier checked out okay but its been sitting outdoors for God knows how long and has some corrosion on the outer casing so I’ll replace it too.
I’ll be going with cheap replacements for these components for now, its not ideal but budget wise it works and it’ll do to verify that impossible to find ECU isn’t completely cooked before flashing the cash on better replacements.
