Hello Hyoriders!
I have a 2007 GT250r – years ago (with little mechanical knowledge) I swapped the motor from a GV250 Cruiser (also 2007 – that fired and ran) and was unable to get it to start. After seemingly endless attempts to start I gave up and parked it.
Fast forward 5 years, I decided to look at things again with a fresh point of view (and slightly more mechanical knowledge) realized that the CDI for the GV250 only has 8 pins whereas my GT250 has 10.
Do i need to swap the CDI to the GV?
How would I go about accomplishing this?
I don’t have a manual or wiring diagram for either, and google is of little help. Any knowledge/input would be greatly appreciated!!
Pic 1 is the GT and pic 2 is the GV (I can provide part numbers needed)

Marcel is the expert with these bikes 😁 I’m just a good spanner monkey
I done a engine swap on my bike gsxr 750 carb to 1L injection so know a bit about it 🤔
You will need the ECU for the engine to match , if you have the wire loom from the new engine it helps set things up if not you might find it easier to make a loom and add in all the bits on the bike lights etc to it or you can have it run as 2 systems the original wires for lights etc and the ECU just do the engine.
If you think of it as the main bit is the engine work the electrics back from there as the rest is mostly just swinging things on and off, so not that hard to rewire
I don’t know that bike, so wait to see what Marcel says he’s the pro 😁

Thank you!
I will get in touch with the guy I gave the old cruiser frame to, and see if i can save some effort before i start tearing mine apart.

Engine (whichever) requires the GT CDI to run on a GT harness.
The motor is fine, it will be the CDI unit. GV is for GV

Okay so that’s definitely my issue, been trying to run a GV with the GT harness and CDI.
I will start pulling the harness and try to get the GV installed. Thank you both for the clarification.
I’ll be back with an update and probably more questions soon!

Sorry ,
I meant the Engine from the GV itself was running wasn’t it ? = leave it in the GT frame.Just focus on getting a CDI unit for the GT bike. GT harness & GT CDi will run a GV engine.
As long as the GV was a carb motor. If the GV was EFI (2008 onwards), then you would need to take the carb flywheel and carb stator in to the GV engine to make it run.
Long short = Leave your setup as it is, just swap the CDI back to a GT one.
Then check for sparks.
A GV harness & GV CDI will be complicated to run on a GT frame. (different electronics including the dash!)

Thanks Marcel!
Yes, the GV ran on the donor bike and was also carbureted so that’s what my setup currently is, GV motor on a GT frame, CDI, and harness.
I will check for spark and get back to you.

Scratch that last question. My coils had a bit of corrosion on them so I cleaned them up and bam! Sparked right up. Thanks a million for your help, Marcel.
