I tried searching the forum but couldn’t find the answer. What year did the change to fuel injection happen and what year did the second generation fuel injection start? I read a while ago (can’t find the article now) that the first generation EFI was problematic, anyone care to comment?

The GV650 EFI started in 2008 2 ECUSĀ  (1 normal and other was made in Japan) because in 2008 we also had special aniversary edition red frame GV650 models,Ā  alsoĀ  last generation (around 2013-2020) we have DELPHI ECU using Delphi Electronics and revised fuel pumps ,Ā  Ā and the upcoming GV650 Pro will be DELPHI electronics again.

ALL EFi models are OK ,Ā  it is just regulator was problematic , so we upgrade to Shingden Regs and Electrosport StatorsĀ  (like you saw on this website’s shop pages)

Later EFI models (Delphi) use slightly smaller diameter stators , they work OK.Ā  Ā But still recommended to change regulators to a beefier one or replace OEM one as soon as they start acting funny.Ā  Many fake shingden regulators online, so it is better to go to a local junk yard to find a wrecked Honda (too many models to list).

      Hope this helps.

Thanks Marcel, exactly what I was after.

If the bike has the OEM regulator/rectifier, I’ll be replacing it, rather than waiting for it to pop.
