Hi, as the title says, I have problems with my rear brake. Rear brake not working at all, piston moves around 1mm and returns without problem. I have tested for fluid out of the bleed nipple and there is fluid when pumping the brakes, but im still thinking that there’s a problem with the master cylinder.
Rear brake light not working at all. I have read in the manual that there is an adjuster for the light but all i can see is that the switch is inside the master cylinder housing looking at the two wires out of the back of the cylinder.
Any help is appreciated.

Based on your location, you just as north as us! Welcome!
Okay, the brake switch may be on the banjo hose itself that’s coming out of the brake hose, if it has gone burst, it can be changed.
Commonly as we know now, the rear brakes can loose power if air manages to get in to the system, so you may simply have air in the brakes. There is a CBS cylinder that goes between front and rear brake (think of it as a half-ABS system)

Hi Marcel, where are you based?
I’ve spotted the CBS cylinder under the rear brake pedal i think. Do you know if the brake light switch is Hydraulic? I’m thinking if both the rear brake and brake light don’t work, then it’ll most definitely be air. Will bleed again tomorrow, I know these linked systems can cause problems

It is true , but its the cheapest way than using a full blown ABS system with even more electronics to keep an eye on, older GV’s were a lot easier to maintain, just the back had a drum instead of a disc!
We are north UK but have customers in the yorkshire district but in any case , any private work to be done by us , just send an email or for sales enquiries
Good luck bleeding the brakes and get any pics uploaded here if you see anything suspicious done by last keepers anyway
If it’s too urgent, go to Startright Motorcycles in your town (our partners) , and tell them we sent you, they will “probably” have the spare brake switch in their shelves

This is weird but I had to get a master cylinder for a Superlight a few years back and I got it from Startright!! I guess I’ll be going back soon 😛
I’ll update the thread as soon as i bleed and figure out what the issue is.
Thanks again!

I had a same issue no brakes in foot pedal. I had to replace the rear brake fluid reservoir as cap was corroded, and had to bleed out the system. I’ve started at rear brake, at first fluid was coming out from the bleed nipple but after a while air bubbles appear, moved to front brakes and again to back. And brakes started working.
Brake light started to work after this as well so it looks like it is pressure activated.

Thanks, Tomas.
I still haven’t got round to looking at it, but I’m aiming to do so soon. I’ll try your method and report back.
Thanks again.

Same issue, after it sat trough the Winter, no rear breaks, no stoplight when breaking with the pedal.
I drained all the fluid from the rear system, topped it off, bled the breaks front and rear (for the front caliper its the lower one), topped it of again and it works perfect.

Bleed the rear first, then bleed the front, and finally, go back to the rear and bleed again. If it doesn’t bleed after that, replace the master cylinder and start the bleed process again.
I’m the OP and neglected to fix mine until the MOT was due 2 week ago so this is all fresh in my mind.

I’m in the UK and ordered mine from France via Ebay.
Unsure which country you’re in, but there’s one in Germany via Ebay.

Right done this
There not fluid coming out from front brake is that normal? -
Apr 7, 2025 at 4:23 PM #19246
That is not normal. Are both reservoirs topped off with brake fluid?
-
Apr 7, 2025 at 4:45 PM #19247
Yes the front brake works perfectly
Just rear one stop working got new fluid and new pads a month and half ago -
Apr 7, 2025 at 4:46 PM #19248
Does the rear reservoir have fluid in it?
-
Apr 7, 2025 at 4:46 PM #19249
Both tank been ful up past days

May be a failed master cylinder

Right done this There not fluid coming out from front brake is that normal?
Loosen the lower screw on the front brake and then try to Press the rear brake to see if the fluid will come out. Do it coupe of Times, if the fluid starts to go, tighten the bolt, pump the brake, hold it and loosen the screw, the tighten. Then te same for the rear brake (check rear fluid level and top off when needed).

Przemek seems to offer good advise , so I haven’t said much yet I’ve seem him get busy with the bike as he was also changing his chain kit 🙂
This will be stupid but work with me ==> block the pipe going to the front of the bike brake
Now try to see if you can find a single banjo (banjo that accepts only a single hose)
Rear brake uses only the rear master cylinder
Front only uses front master cylinder
You just deleted the CBS system and went to the old school wayNow you will know if the front or rear is truly the problem.
Expect to re-bleed the brakes twice
If the rear master cylinder turns out to be bad (since it can’t pump one caliper now) => Replacement is due ofcourse.
Front master cylinder should be OK, as you haven’t said much about it.

Put the bike inside the house from now on and make him pay . Hate people like that , is he expecting you to die on the streets when your brakes fail?

Im glad You managed to figure it out, it sucks a lot that the cause was somebody intentionaly damaging Your bike. But it is a good thing you have it on video, now make him pay for the damaged line, lost breaking fluid and Your time (not to mention the potential risk to Your health or even life if You didnt catch the issue on time). If he has a problem with paying just go to the cops with the footage, they should set him straight (it carries the signs of murder attempt)
