Was having a lovely ride out yesterday in the sunshine, right up until the bike died and had the privilege of getting returned home on a recovery truck.

Had just filled up, 2 miles down the road and the engine stops briefly, the dash flashes every light and the rev counter spins round (almost like it does on pre-start), and then back to normal.  Another 1/2 mile up the road, and the everything dies.  No engine, no dash, nothing.

Coast to a stop and its as dead as a dodo.  Nothing on the dash.

Feels electrical, the engine was fine up until the point it stopped.

So with great plans to start tracing wires today found out my multimeter needs a battery so i’ll wait until next weekend.  Pulled the fuses and all looked good.  No obvious signs of any shorts anywhere.

Does anyone have a wiring diagram?  There is one in the back of the owners manual but its so small i wonder the usefulness.

Check the power on the battery, the fuel injection is very sensitive to voltage if its really down then the problem could be charging issues.

Such a young bike and new model from Hyosung it shouldn’t ever have this kind of problem but it’s a motorcycle like any other brand, strange things happen beyond human control much like cars

So i definitetly thing its the battery system.

If the regulator (very common Hyosung and Suzuki thing) has stopped charging the battery and the bike was basically dying down as the battery ran down, then it sounds like a regulator change is a very good idea.

As simon says the EFi system is more fragile in terms of electrical sensetivities , it doesn’t like flactuations, a steady 14v supply is a happy bike. I have been meaning to do upgraded regulators for these EFi bikes anyways   (9/10 of Hyosung riders on earth tend to change the regulators on their older models especially carbies)

Keeps the stator happy too! (A very costly item mind you) , so whatever we do , we make sure we don’t have to replace the stator unless last resort if bike isn’t charging.

if your meter is working = rev to 8k , rev to 3k , and 5k , tell us the voltages the bike is making.

Infact , while the battery is charged,  let it run on battery , unhook the stator plugs that have 3 yellow wires near battery , switch to AC , rev to 5K, and tell us AC volts each single yellow wire makes  (as it’s called 3 phase system)

ie. out of each 3 yellow wires at 5k revs
      Pin 1 / Pin 2 = 80v
      Pin 2 / Pin 3 =  80v
      Pin 3 / Pin 1 = 20v

Then it means stator replacement time, if all 3 lines don’t match their AC volts. Thus in return, if its spiking, it will cook the reg, then the battery, then the electronics (which at that point they start spazzing out)

      Thanks for the tips!

I’m away with work at the moment so will start digging into this on Friday hopefully.

      Will feedback what i find.

I’ve now had chance to look at this and its all a bit confusing.

Battery is holding steady at 12.8v.

I have 12.8v on the red wire at the ignition switch.

Once the ignition is on i don’t get 12.8v on the orange wire  at the ignition switch.  After i turn the ignition switch to on i get about 0.5v on both wires.

I would have expected 12.8v on the orange wire after the ignition is on, and the same going back to the relays and switched fuses.

Could it be something putting load on the ignition?

      Is the bike running?
test the voltage idling and also 5k revs at the battery point.

Also test the stator using my previous reply ? you want to make sure that thing is healthy.

I’ve not tried jumpstarting it…or even know if that would work.  Will need to find some jump leads.

At the moment i’m getting 12.8v at the battery and live side of the ignition switch but nothing after that…nothing on the dash/dials, lights, etc.

Also locate the fuse box , don’t jump start while a car or van or truck is running, it will fry the bike.

Also while at it, check all connectors for water invasions or dirt.   Plus check for signs of shorting along the harness incase something to do with water invasion or fraying from the steering area down to the airbox

Good news…the bike is running again.

First issue, the ignition switch had corroded contacts.  Now all cleaned up.

Second issue, a break in the power line somewhere between the junction above the rec/reg and the ignition switch.  Rather than breaking out the loom, i’ve run a new wire.

After a day learning how to disassemble parts of a bike and trace electrical woes i then went on a 15 mile shakedown ride and all seems good.

Will try and get out again tomorrow, weather permitting.  But fingers crossed!

      Well done!

Sounds like you could do a mini wiki topic on this forum to help other GV-S owners with your experiences  (ie.   If you have a GV125-S , dos & donts )  somewhere along those lines.

      Well done!

Get ACF50 though, and put a little drop of that stuff in every single connector you can find, it will thank you!
