I’m going to convert my bike to a single seat and put a rack on the back, which requires an adaption to the seat bracket and then finding a rack that will fit neatly using the existing holes. I’ve started doing some research but thought I’d ask if anyone has done this already.
Cheers

Personally i have not done this , as i tend to like the OEM setup sometimes.
I know full well the mudguard for the rear is all single piece that allows modifications to the second picture , you can always use existing “locking” mechanism from the OLD main seat, to affix to the new custom spring seat. As for the “springs” if its a bobber spring style you’re going for, the mudguard gets drilled to support the base.
The other question is that if you ride in the rain, how creative will you get in protecting the electronics under the harness, fuel pump , relays , battery and the like, as the OEM seat with its side panels seems to do enough of a job to keep most rain showers away .

Thanks Marcel,
My intention was to keep the existing seat and just lose the pillion, as I don’t think a bobber seat would look right on that bike.
I may, depending on the solution buy a second hand front seat and get it reupholstered with memory foam etc. to improve comfort.
The aim is not to do anything that would stop the bike being returned to standard.
Whenever I sell it, I’d like to give the buyer the option to change it back.

Hi all,
carrying on with the above thread, I’ve now made my first attempt, creating a new bracket and fitting the rear rack.
still not completely happy with it. I’ve now got two choices, change the fixing points to accommodate the fender rack fixings positions, and/or (this is my favourite), obtain a second seat and remodel it, so that it comes up and over the fixings to hide them.
so if anyone has a second hand seat that they are flogging for a sensible price, I’d be interested.
feedback /comments are always welcome.

Hey!
I see the why you want the rack to stay there , looks nice as a solo seat mod too!I think you want to keep the metal plate that locks the main rider seat — I see the metal rear rack is a bit too wide to catch the 2 main bolts but it’s okay….
Get 6x m6 penny washers. 3x per side. And get 2 m6 bolts not too long and 2 m6 nuts for the under side of the plastic.
The 2x washers act as spacers under the rack , drill a hole thru the metal rack, then screw a bolt with a penny washer on top.
Now you have 4 bolts across holding it down.
To hide the area , hmmm , how about get a thick strip of leather or similar that’s weather resistant like the seat. Cut around it and glue it down ?
I don’t have a spare seat for your upholstorer to remodel it but , they can always remodle your seat to have a bit more extension to the back (assuming the pillion seat won’t return anytime soon!)

Thanks Marcel, input appreciated.
I would rather destroy a second seat and keep this one, so that when I sell on the next owner can return to original. I’ll keep looking until I find one.
Agreed, the washers would be an option but concerned 4 bolts might look overkill.
My other thought was to make a second plate that goes over the top and sandwiches the chrome fender section between.I’ll go back to the drawing board and make some cardboard templates first.
Will keep you informed.

okay, so finished (in my opinion anyway).
started from scratch and refashioned the home made seat bracket, making it wide enough to use the rack fixing holes. I’ve made new holes through the fender and bolted from underneath.
im really happy with this now, it’s solid and ties the rack in well to the existing seat.

Cheers Marcel, I can post up what I used/bought, if that helps. Is it worth sharing on the Facebook group as well, what do you think?
Here is another picture, more of a close up

Why not, i can see you tried to blend in the blue colour almost as if i couldn’t tell if thats a metal plate there lol.
You can always tell them what colour code was used.
Share away! Brings traffic back to this site lol.

Got the paint mixed at Cars on Canvey island (http://carspaints.com/) and it’s pretty spot on. I just called them and annoyingly I didn’t know I had to ask them to store the formulation, so I’ll have to get it rescanned and then I can share the paint code for everyone. So far I’ve sprayed the side panels and the front fender, but next is to make good and blend in the tank, that will be the real test.
I’ll get all the info together and post, making sure to mention you of course 😂 -

Hi Harvey, could you tell me where you purchased the rack or if you ordered it online could you give me the link.
Thanks, Alan.

Hi Alan
return question, where did you get your engines guards / crash bars? Been looking for some, but only found one or two and they seem very expensive.
Thanks

Hi Alan,
Background for you. First one I ordered didn’t fit, so after further measuring the second one was okay. Both from Amazon, so I could send back. Mine came from TOPRAMETAL, but it says unavailable. Below is a photo of the dimensions for mine and I’ve found one similar, search for b0dmjgcgs5 and it should be the third item down. The dimensions are really close.
Please note I was playing around working out what to do and I cut away part of the rack for it to go around the original fixing points, but then I didn’t like the finish, so took the rubber grommets out and used bolts and nuts with washers to make new holes through the fender. If you choose that method you don’t need to cut the front section away.
Hope that makes sense.

If you zoom in to the finished job, you can see where I cut away the front bar. If you go with this process and make new holes you won’t need to do that. Look at the earlier photos of my first attempt and you’ll see what I mean.

Hi Harvey, thanks for the info. Unfortunately when I do a search on Google for b0dmjgcgs5 it doesn’t find anything or am I missing something!
As for the crash bars, I’m afraid I can’t be any help to you on that one as they were fitted to the bike when I bought it.
