Hello everyone,
I’m hoping someone might be able to help me with an issue I’m having on my 2011 Hyosung GT650 EFI. The motorcycle starts and runs fine in neutral, but as soon as I put it into gear, the fuel pump cuts out and the starter is disabled.
Here’s what I’ve checked so far:
- The kickstand switch has been bypassed (wires shorted).
- The clutch switch tested good, but to be safe I also bypassed it – no improvement.
- I traced the clutch switch wiring back to the ECU, and continuity is fine.
At this point, I’m not sure if the problem is with the kickstand wiring, a poor connection, or possibly something in the ECU. If anyone has run into this before or has suggestions on what else I should test, I’d be very grateful for your advice.
Thank you in advance!

Turn on the keys , don’t start it , but flick the red kill switch button 3 times and wait for a red light to flash in a sequence.
If it does , count the sequence (ie. 4 blinks , pause , 3 blinks , pause 1 blink) = that would be like code 4.3.1 for example, and we can trace this to the service manual to see what the issues. On a carb version = It would be easy, either thee clutch switch/neutral switch/stand switch cut sparks off as soon as its put in 1st gear. Stand switch usually number 1 culprit , so much so that sometimes a bypass isn’t enough, we have to make sure the wires have not rotted inside badly to the point they don’t contact each other anymore.
Just my thoughts!

Thanks for the info! I tried it, but I can’t seem to get any blinking codes. I flipped the kill switch three times (both fast and slow), but the FI light never flashed. I also bridged the service connector under the seat, and the dash just showed “CHK” without any blink sequence, or error codes.
Could you clarify how exactly it should be done? Do I need to wait until the dash finishes its startup and shows the CHK message before flicking the kill switch, or should I be doing it during the “startup” while there is nothing on the dash?

Usually i wait until the fuel pump is primed then play with the kill switch button 3 times or if the pump doesn’t prime i give the dash a few seconds to sweep up and down, then try again.
Also while at it, double check continuity from the clutch switch down to the ecu connectors and same for the side stand , so you want to be sure the ECU can sense the bypass (thinking the switches are still there, then it will allow you to shift gears)

I wasn’t able to get the blinking codes to work, but I kept digging and finally traced the problem to the kickstand wiring. The wire wasn’t always making contact, and once I tracked it down and fixed the connection the issue was resolved. But thanks anyway for the tip, I appreciate the help!

Well done, i knew something about the side stand area was suspicious. Immediate cuts after 1st gear, the bike panics and thinks you want to ride with the stand down!
Which reminds me, check your stand is up before riding. Many years ago , i saw my friend crash after turning left because his side stand was down!
