Allo! I’m trying to determine the size of the axle nut on my GF’s GT250R, as I’m going to surprise her with a full set of new tools. Along with ratchets & sockets for 1/4, and 3/8 , there is a set of 1/2 inch drive sockets and rachet, and breaker bar, but I think the largest is 22mm, and I’m sure the axle nut is bigger. I looked around here, and all over the net, but couldn’t find that info. She won’t need a whole set of huge sockets, so if I knew the size, I could augment the set, by just buying the one. Thank you!

Just lost the long reply I was typing. Anyway, huge thanks, and a suggestion, that maybe it would be helpful, to have a “sticky ” here, as a reference, listing any fastener sizes outside of a very basic tool set. Especially useful if you are grabbing tools to go somewhere, to get a buddy’s bike on the road. I usually note these things on my bikes in the service manual, but she’s only had the bike a few months. TBH, until she bought it, I’d never heard of Hyosung, but it has won me over completely, A perfect first bike, no terrible habits, honest handling, and easy to repair. I wish my first street bike had been half as good. Thanks again for the help, and the forum.

Why they went with 23mm is a real mystery! I had every inch & metric tool you can think of. Except for that bastard sized 23mm! Now that I have a combo wrench that size I’ve also used it on my SYM for valve adjusts and oil screen cleaning.

bastard sized 23mm!
I agree. I am also a little surprised, that there is no safety or other retention for the axle nut. Ideally, It would have been nice to see a castellated nut/split-pin, but that requires drilling a hole through the axle shaft, so I might drill a axle nut, and safety wire it. This is a longshot, but does anyone know the thread pitch for the axle nut, or where a castellated nut for the GT250R can be sourced?

should be 15 x 1.5mm or 17 x 1.5mm fine pitch but get a thread pitch tool to confirm , because 23mm is an odd spanner size (usually 22mm one side and 24mm next step!)

M16 1.5 RH Thread Pitch. At least, that’s what Mr. Sursely at whygostock.com told me, after emailing him. He also sent a link to a castellated nut they sell, (don’t know if posting links is ok here) for about a third the price of the factory part. It does not mention the OD of the nut. I hope it’s 23mm, so I didn’t find that socket for nothing. lol
