G’day all. Anyone changed their FORK OIL on GT250R or a GT650?
Got GT650 forks (2007 i think) to put on my GT250R. They’re adjustable & i heard have stiffer springs.
1. Where exactly do i pour the oil? I thought i’d pour it over the springs, but they are covered. See photo. Do i have to undo the top nut over the springs or can i keep that sealed up & pour fork oil in the small holes at the top of the tubes? It doesn’t seem right to pour the oil onto the oil seal itself.
2. Before pouring in the new fork oil, do i unwind the current fork setting? i.e. lower the damping before oil refill? I guess turning the adjusters on top of fork, & lower fork leg, ANTI-CLOCKWISE will lower the setting?
I got Motul 10W Medium full synth oil & seals if needed. 400ml in each fork? Anything else i need to know guys? I hope to avoid judder so i just cycle the rod in the centre up & down until she feels good, right? Photos below don’t quite reveal where to pour the fork oil but may help somone explain it. 😉

Watch a quick youtube video of the SV650 , it uses the same Kayaba forks as the GT650 (just different thickness & caliper mounting brackets & wheel spindle)
I know one of the 650 manuals on the forum has a guide for fork oil change but i can’t remember which one, so its worth a look ? Let me know!
