I will try to ask around , as i don’t even have a supply chain in canada for parts myself , otherwise i would know more about that country specifically.
Maybe you know what’s wrong with the bike and see if we can help you on the forum a little ?

Thank you for the reply.
When I press the starter button the engine starts to turn over and then stops with a clank noise.
I changed the starter and battery. Still happens but it’s intermittent. -

Drain some oil. Unscrew the bolts that hold the magneto casing on the left.
I have a sneaky suspicious that the starter motor is spinning but you may have lost a tooth from from one of the crank sprockets that spin the flywheel or sprag clutch issue behind the flywheel, but you need to have a look.
If in doubt, have you browse the service manual section on this forum and download the 650 manuals to familarize yourself with the bike’s internals and such.
Taking off the casing shouldn’t be too hard at all, you’re just looking that’s all. Also take pictures of whats behind the flywheel if you can and we may advise if it looks okay or not.
Or it is possible the starter motor itself is worn out. (but you have already replaced this unit ?) so i will look to see if the starter Relay Solenoid is the one that’s causing this behavior.
I do hope the engine is okay, just take care when taking the casing off and putting it back as it has a very thin and sensitive gasket to rips.

It’s okay , the art is not to rush. You will surprise yourself too. If in doubt record yourself or take pics so you always know where things connected back.
We’ll be here if you need help.

Actually I took the starter in to a specialist and he opened it up and said the inside was fried. He is looking for parts to rebuild it.

Tricky things to rebuild them starter motors but hope he scores the parts. You, yourself should have a phone handy and talk to WhyGoStock, they are a real Hyosung USA dealer and will most likely have the part you need. They are much closer, and will be quicker than us trying to send parts to you, just consider us as last resort.
I think your mechanic has got this i hope, keep us updated!

So the starter guy couldn’t rebuild it. He can get me a brand new starter for a hyosung V2C 650S . It looks the same but he’s not sure if that is the same part as the one I need for my GV65O Aquila.
Do you know if it is the same?
Thanks again. -

V2C 650 and GV650 are the same bike. One says Hyosung , the other uses United Motors (usa) branding (like Malaysia uses NAZA branding) but its all still Hyosung Korea.
Post the part numbers or pictures of the item if in any doubt 🙂

Hi all
Still having starter issues. Is there a way to adjust the timing on the GV65O 2007 and would that help the starting problem?
Thanks -

Can you explain more of the starting issues?
Also secondly, do you see good sparks from the plugs and fuel is getting to the cylinders?

Starting issues
Fuel and spark are good.
It starts 8 times out of 10 but generally strands me when I am away from home. It will start to turn over and then come to a crashing stop in the first second or so of kranking it. It almost sounds like it’s hitting something as it’s trying to turn over. It will do the same thing 20 or 30 times and then all of a sudden magically start. It will start if you push start it.
I just put in a new battery which is fully charged. I changed the starter motor a year ago with an oem model from Korea. I also put in a new starter solenoid at the same time.
I checked the starter switch by by passing it and had the same problem. The only other observation is that when it’s having this problem the wires to and from the solenoid get very hot.
I also checked the starter clutch and it is solid in one direction and spins freely in the other direction.
Any ideas would be welcome. Thank you! -

Are you certain there is no missing teeth on the big sprocket that is behind the flywheel drum ?

I am very suspicious of the “Sprag Clutch” that sits behind the flywheel drum, if in doubt, i’d replace it. Sounds similar to a bike i’ve worked on a while , it was a GV250 that was notorius for having missing teeth of the sprocket or sprag clutch got too old / annoyed causing the starting system (electrics) to get drained fast
– Alas starter motor dies sooner from stress cranking
– Solenoid, burns out.If it starts on pushing and dropping to 2nd gear.
This issue now points to funny behavior that concerns these parts mainly
- Starter Motor Unit
- Check the wires, if in doubt, use thicker gauge wires.
- Sprag Clutch
- Flywheel sprocket
- Hopefully flywheel “Half-MOON” shape key is in still inside the crank shaft where the drum slides in to, so it clocks the “drum” only from free spinning
(I would assume so, otherwise if a drum free spins, it will certainly undo the center flywheel nut)
