Hi,
I’m new to the owners club. I bought a GT125R in March last yearunregistered. I’ve been jumping through the DVLA hoops since then to get it registered. It has been MOT’D and type approved. Now they are wanting Dating certificates which can be provided by the owners/enthusiast club. This must also contain date/year the bike was manufactured. Can anyone help me please I can provide photos of the bike but when it was type approved they said it is a 2016 but DVLA aren’t accepting that !!.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Andy

Hello Andy, Good to have you here 🙂 & Happy belated new years!
Let’s crack on , so you have the bike , that’s great, perharps can you upload some photos on here ?
– The bike itselfAlso, go to the engine, see the front engine ? –> Now next to the rubber manifold holding the carbs , you will see a date stamped on it.
Take a picture of that engine mfg dateThirdly,
Engine number is directly above the stator casing on the left side of the crank , it will say something like GT125-234568 = I will guestimate the engine’s true age from there (but it would not surprise me if Korea makes engines in random numbers)
We do not need to see your VIN number here on public , thats usually for the GOV to know that anyways.
It may be a little tricky as i’ve seen even 19 plates and 20 plates still get registered after jumping crazy hoops , it is because the laws changed before the covid era where “all bikes” that run on 125cc engines with carbs needed to have registrations done. After 2019 , it meant new bikes being registered had to have fuel injection, CBS or ABS and what not to please Euro4/Euro5 laws in EU, which for some reason UK still obeys them after all that brexit mess, ….weird but whatever…
Moving on, you will eventually get a plate from DVLA , i am sure they probably have an un-used 66-68 plate available or a custom plate assigned to it , in either case , this site is an owners club in the sense its a social platform, we have not had to issue certificates dating the bikes , unless they for specifics of how we should “produce” such certificate ?
Regards

Hi Andy, I bought a new gt125rc late july 2019. I know that when unboxed and assembled it had to be emission certificated and registration took about 3 weeks to complete by the dealer. It was given a 2019 plate at registration and was delivered late august. I was told that euro 3 bikes needed this process.
Hope this helps, Dave.

Hi sorry I’ll upload some photos I was trying to do it from my phone.
I will keep all updated on the progress and once it’s all gone through I’ll post how I went about it and all the pitfalls I came across so others if they are in the same situation have a better idea of what it entails.

Okay the continuing sarge of getting my bike registered.
Once again DVLA have rejected my application as they are saying all the evidence I have provided does not confirm the year of manufacture !!
I have sent confirmation from MotoGB who imported the bike and the bike shop that sold it.
They are now saying unless I can get it confirmed by the manufacture they will only issue a Q plate instead of an age related plate !!
What advice can anyone give in relation to a Q plate ?
Thanks
Andy

Hi Andy, Just a question, how come if the bike was bought new that the dealer didn’t register it for you and complete the documentation before handing it over? My bike I gather is a 2016 model ( gt125 rc ) new unboxed at point of sale but was registered by the dealer ( Millenium Motorcycles )and delivered taxed and ready for the road with a 19 plate. Can the dealer who sold it not provide the details you need? All the Best, Dave.

Hi Dave sorry it’s a long reply !!
I bought the bike at auction last march. It was listed as unregistered but came with a number plate. On checking I found that the number given to it was on the system, I contacted DVLA who confirmed it. The name of the bike shop was on the plate so I contacted them. They confirmed that they had sold the bike and sent all the paperwork off to DVLA. They also gave me the phone number for MotoGB who imported and sold the bike to them. I called them and they confirmed that they imported it in Aug 2016 and sold it onto the bike shop in 2017.
I then filled in the 55/5v for 1st registration after speaking to DVLA again and asking what I need to do to get it registered. This 1st application ws rejected as the bike wasn’t mot’d so tried to get that done on the vin number. This was done sent everything back to DVLA who rejected it again saying it needed type approval. I booked it in with VOSA appt got cancelled 3 time’s due to illness and no staff (their end) managed to get this done. Sent all paperwork back to DVLA who again rejected it saying in need another mot because it hadn’t been type approved the 1st time !! This was done again sent off again and rejected again as they want year of manufacture. That’s when I posted on here and Marcel replied saying where to find the date stamp and engine number. This was sent back they have rejected it again stating that they want a certificate stating year of manufacture. They have said if I can’t get this they will issue a Q plate. I have emailed hyosung (KR Motors) in Korea to see if they can help but not had a reply.

Hi Andy, Wow you have certainly had the run around from both DVLA and the dealer. Surely DVLA or dealer must have the copies of the original documents sent to them to get the number plate issued. Failing that I might try another dealer that sells the current Hyosung range as they must have contact with the Korean company for spares, sales info and service requirements etc. I know many dealers were offloading their old stock of these bikes due to new emission regs etc. I got my bike at a great price because of this. As stated earlier I know that separate emission tests had to be carried out on my bike because it was only euro 3 and euro 4 regs were already in place before DVLA would proceed with registration. Hope you get there soon, Dave.

Hi Dave, yeah it’s been a b**l ache to say the least. DVLA say they never received any paperwork relating to the bike the dealer confirmed purchase and then sale but said they didn’t have any other information regarding it, MotoGB confirmed all their said of things but they are in the middle of an office move so can’t locate the paperwork but can confirm vin colour month and year of import. I have tried other dealers and all I get from them is refer to original dealer or MotoGB !! Just keep going round in circles.

Although I deal with sales of parts , with imports of them and what not in the trade and sell bikes (used that are are already registered) , but i don’t import bikes as that was licensed to MotoGB to do it initially.
Can you try give Startright Motorcycles Leeds a call and say Marcel sent you. I live not far from them and they are still an active hyosung dealer and the oldest Korean dealer since they also do SYM & Daelim bikes. They know the mess of registering a bike. I bought a brand new spanish bike from them and it had to come from spain directly to them , and i saw it in a crate box , all that was left was to register it.
It didnt “NEED” MOT as it was a new bike, no MOT required for 3yrs (standard isnt it ?) = So why you had to get MOT on your new unridden bike is a surprise to me to say the least.
if MotoGB has details of your bike , and details of the contract with KR Motors (confirming that KR Motors sold it to them etc…) = This proves the manufacture’s involvement , this would come with documents to say when the Koreans made it)
Ie. Bike MFG’d = 2016 , Seoul Korea // Exported 2016-5-5 // Recieved by MotoGB 2017-Jan // Local UK bike shop acquires it 2017-August & has been in shop floor since then.
That makes the shop either the 1st owner of it (if they pre-registered) before the 2019 (circa) euro 3 / euro 4 switch over
I know for a fact i am speaking to an owner on FB that has a brand new red 125cc 2022 plate (Yes, 2022 plate!)
last year i saw on FB groups , 21 plates floating around , of these same Hyosungs.
Whatever hoops they went through, they were determined to get it done. Despite (after 2018/2019 bikes must be Injected with ABS/CBS which the 2016 bikes do not have)
I’ve not seen a Q-Plate GT125R , so i would be amazed either way its allowed on the road in whatever case.
Sorry for any gramar errors above , i was digressing!

Hi Marcel thanks I’ll give Startright a call and see if they can help. When I took it for the type approval the guy did question why it required an mot and type approval !!
MotoGB did confirm the details but as they are in the process of moving officers they couldn’t locate it. As for DVLA I’ve tried to explain all of this to them but they aren’t going to budge they want proof of year of manufacture, just banging my head against a brick wall and you can’t speak to the new regulations dept only the switch board !!
Thanks all for your replies.
