2006 GT650 – Uniform Metal Chunks inside crankcase + piles of metal shavings
Hi yall, my first time posting here so if I missed anything, let me know and I can fix it.
I recently bought this GT650 in March, rode it for a few weeks, replaced the chain in June, put it on too tight and while in second gear, heard a loud noise and the bike grinded whenever I tried to shift into any gear. I pulled it over, turned it off, shifted through all the gears no issue, started her up again and had no issues getting it home. Did not grind or anything.
I then decided to be better safe than sorry and drained the oil finding chunks of those metal shards which led me to removing the engine from the bike and taking it completely apart to find the broken piec
However, after splitting the crank case where I thought the broken piece might be because nothing else so far looked out of place or damaged, I found nothing out of the ordinary. Everything looks “fine” just normal wear and tear it seems, nothing seems to be missing from where it should be no play in any of the gears on the transmission or any play on the connecting rods or crankshaft to suggest a bad connecting rod bearing.
I am at a loss here, it is a lot of metal sitting inside this crank case so it cant be nothing but I cant figure out what is it. Any advice on where to look or what it might be would be extremely helpful and I appreciate you taking the time to read this post.
Thanks, Russell
