Hi all. first post here…
It’s actually my gf that currently has a 2021 gv125s bobber, but I’ve just been curious since she got it.. does anybody know the differences between the 125 and the 300 motor? Are they completely unique engines? Or like the 883 and 1200 HD sportsters is it same bottom end and just different cylinders and pistons..? and has anybody looked at converting yet if it is..?

Marcel will be the one who definitely know but I’m pretty sure it’s a completely different engine. Anything is possible to fit to just about anything else given time & money but unless you could pick up a complete bike for next to nothing I wouldn’t even bother.

Hey , welcome.
Bobber 300cc changes vs 125cc
- Different Engine (everything inside is bigger), cannot use any 125cc parts
- Slightly larger water cooler (300cc is hotter)
- Tacho is locked (gauge) = Cannot possible use 125 electronics in 300cc
- Injectors different (more fuel flow)
- Different ECU (125cc ECU is locked for 125cc mapping only and wants 125cc)
- Electronics & Sensors are changed for 300cc (such as lambda, 02, ET, ISCV, etc)
In essense it is a different animal with similar or same looks as Bobber 125 / EVO 125 , it looks like the 300cc uses same chassis as 125cc (maybe stronger steel due to extra torque) , GV300SS has big forks , different brake calipers (bigger)
That is why some parts i sell on this site say “125cc” only as it is not possible to fit them on GV300S
Can i ask ? I am curious. Why does she need to change from 125cc to 300cc ? 125cc is not a bad bike, i have multiple Hyosungs and the baby 125 in my garage is fun and cheap to ride , also it is best for me to use 125cc in winter as cheaper maintenance lol. Big girls only get used on sunny dry days if it is cold , call me a fair weather man 😉

Well that answered that question! Lol
Probably the most comprehensive answer to any question I’ve asked, ever! Haha thank you, your time taken us greatly appreciated : )
We both have other 125s already, (Honda Grom sf) which are great fun little things. The bobber she has bought though to ride alongside me when I’m on my HD streetglide, whilst I can ride at the slower pace to allow her to keep up a bit more umph, that even the 300 would provide would be handy, and allow for a little longer distance cruising together on our own bikes, instead both on the Harley.
But obviously, she’ll have to pass her full licence realistically and not just the 125 licence she currently has.

Hmm i totally understand now;
Probably the best investment for a 125cc EFI GV125S is the 520 kit to improve gearing across the gears , then when she is ready she can always trade in the 125cc at the dealers for a GV300S , again it would also benefit for a 520 chain set , now the 300cc can actually just about keep up with you as long as you are not racing haha or jump straight to the Gv650 (great sporty cruisers!)

Does the speedo remain accurate when sprockets are changed?
I’m looking at ordering the uprated plugs and leads but could be tempted to add the 520 kit.. (delivery would be to France though as we moved to lower Normandy 3 years ago from UK)

Hello , the speed sensor is driven by the front wheel directly as you will see when you at the bottom of the front left fork (some GV125-S models have ABS sensor intergrated in to the forks to calculate brake disc speed vs rear disc for ABS only)
520 vs 428 Sprocket changes affect final gearing (ie. x amount of teeth front and rear = acceleration or extended 1 , 2 , 3 ,4, 5 gears before each shift), we try to balance the middle as much as we can but send us an email to customize it, since i will have a general idea of what you are expecting out of her bike.
Shipping will be fine , we have many EU customers on this site. Cheapest will be our tracked UK Post service going to LaPoste/Collismo to finish the delivery, more details explained in email.
All the best
