My bike died while I was driving on the freeway. When I pulled over it smelt werid on by my dash. Called a guy to come give me a jump and when it was connected to my battery my blinkers and headlight would work but not the dash. I pushed it to the nearest parking lot which happened to be a motorcycle shop and they helped me out a lil they said that my battery was a lil low but it’s fine they tried tapping my starter solenoid w a screwdriver and it wasn’t clicking so he said that it something electrical anybody got any ideas that could help me pinpoint what I need to fix on it

Take the starter motor off , and check if it spins when manually connected to the battery ? (becareful as the stator motor may spark! when clamping its body)
Also sniff around the bike until you find the area strongest with smells , and try to upload a picture of what you see (green add media button on the forum reply box) or use OneDrive/GDrive and get a public share link for photos or use IMGUR website and get BB codes to paste on to this forum

Starter motor didn’t spin while plugged into my battery but it did while plugged into this charger https://ibb.co/gM7sXpwH This charger and a different one said my battery is still good. Also when I set the setting on the charger as shown in the picture instead of the 12V2A settings my bike started and the left side of dash was bearly on and got brighter when I revved it any ideas of what I can try next ?

Too much current from that box will fry everything and it will no longer turn on from a battery again. (Too much amps)
So if the starter won’t spin for the battery on its own, get a new one. And try again.
If that fails , we should assume the starter motor is toast. Then at this point, strip rest of the bike until you find the strongest place you found burn smells.

So I got a new battery and it starts like when I had it plugged into the charger only the left side of the dash turns on. I’m nervous to keep it on a burn something do you think it’s okay ?

Your going to have to look for burnt wires, I’m almost certain that the rectifier has gone & most likely the stator this would have been the burning smell. It could well have caused over voltage which would have damaged other things. Look under the seat for 3 yellow wires & start there.

So i replaced the starter motor and the battery and drove it to work. It seems like normal when i was driving it (only a 15 min drive) but the speedometer still doesn’t work when i took the speedometer off and unplugged the main plug it smells really burnt but doesn’t look like it. so i was wondering if its just the dash thats now broken/burnt out and if it is would this type of dash fit on it or would i have to get a OEM one https://ibb.co/zW7N7Ky5 https://ibb.co/wNsgyypB https://ibb.co/3ybL027H also i just checked my battery and its a 13.2 volts
