I cleaned up the evap canister and associated plumbing, removed a bunch of stickers off of the chassis, replaced the perfectly good air filter with a K & N filter I got on super deal, took my almost brand new carbon fiber muffler from my 390 Duke and put that on. I then went for a superb evening ride. -

Huh! Well my Dad did travel around the world a lot when he was in the Army!😉 The Dukes are awesome.

I am not overly keen on the stock headlight shroud and it makes the headlight look even larger. I unscrewed the 4 screws holding it on and toned the headlight profile down a bit with a carbon wrap.

With the giant gas tank it is a bit of a stretch to the bars. I wanted to bring the bars back and up about 1”, 1 1/4”. Rox Risers fit perfect and has the right feel now.

No bike action today, but we did pick peaches. -
Jul 24, 2022 at 9:55 PM #8179

Now those risers i want them 😉 , who stocks them ? I could buy a lot of sets for us UK folk here, (thinking about it)
Did the cables stretch by any chance ? Sometimes new cables are needed if the height or distance to reach the controls is extended , ie (clutch line, brake lines, etc) and check switch gears are not being pulled when turning the bike left full lock and right full lock, just a shout!

I did the 1” up, and 1” back without any wiring/cable/ hose issues.https://roxspeedfx.com/collections/adv-dual-sport-dirt-bike-handlebar-risers/products/1-1-4-block-offset-risers-for-7-8-or-1-1-8-handlebar I paid a lot less for mine though.

BoosterPlug if you are interested. Hi Jim,
Thanks for the positive feedback – much appreciated.
I’m sorry, but have never developed the BoosterPlug for any of the Hyosung models, and they are unfortunately not on the list of future developments.
Have a nice day 🏍

Comment : I used one of your Boosterplugs on a KTM Duke 390 and was really impressed by it. Can you make one for a 2015 Hyosung GT250 (v-twin) EFI? I believe it is a Delphi system. -
Aug 7, 2022 at 7:11 PM #8281
What would be the benefit of a booster plug for your GT250 EFi ?
-
Aug 7, 2022 at 11:59 PM #8295
Maybe a little quicker warm up and low speed torque. Nothing more.

Who doesn’t want that, every little helps!
Though back then i had a little fiddle with MS ECUs on other little bikes. But never dared to use a MegaSquirt ECU on an EFi 250 Hyosung (650 yes because very very few have gone turbo on their 650s so they do all sorts to the electrics!) But on a 250 factory bike, hmmm i would imagine i’d only use the MS ECU to custom tune the fuel setup if i used bigger injectors and modified the hell out of the intake (air filter) and exhaust pipes

A little jealous as we in the UK about to head in to a long sucky winter, so pictures like that only motivate me to get as much autumn ride time as possible even with the family relative who rides bikes on tow with me.

For some reason the bottom of picture wouldn’t load up.If you’re handy with a little bit of DIY skill, i think the bike will also look good (and keep a few stones or dirt anyway if it tries!) by fitting a GS500 Belly Pan or SV650 one. 😉

700 miles on the clock and a fresh oil/filter change. This bike is pretty fun to ride. Lots of character and an interesting power band. -
Sep 22, 2022 at 12:07 AM #8695
Around 5k to 9k rpm it starts to wake up and sling shot away lol but 10k is usually where it makes its peak power , for most cruisers to make power low down, this should not be able to rev to 13k revs yet it is a high revving bike in general and seems to like it (around the 9-10k mark is fine all day)
Though 11-13k is usually no go zone unless bike agress with it for overtaking purposes (slow traffic) , so i think the red zone is just there for momentary use. Lest the valves start floating & extra wear , but i digress sorry.
is it cold over there yet ? – It’s autum now and about 15-20c general temps , i miss summer already!

Nights and early mornings are starting to get cool(60F), but afternoons have been pretty warm (80F). I am a bit in the mountains and leaves have started changing, leaves are starting to drop.

First time I rode this bike in full darkness and I realized that the headlight was pointed downward about 10 meters in front of me. That and the blinding speedo light made for a bit of a spooky ride! I already played with the speedo brightness, but for some reason it went full bright again. I haven’t had a chance to figure out headlight adjustment on the Naked yet. I sure am infatuated with the sweet power spread of 4000 to 8500. ( in 250cc terms)

Personally i have not had hands on that particular rare headlight as UK commonly gets the roundshape versions (classical look) but speaking of lights, have you had a chance to look behind it for some kind of thumb-based adjustment dial to rise or lower the beam aim or look at the screws holding the headight to the fork bracing , there must be a way to loosen 2 bolts (1 each side usually) then adjust aim, hold it there, then screw in tight. Usually does the trick on my GV Aquilas. The other GTRs i have have a thumb screw at the back as its too awkward to do it any otherway lol.

Oct 18, 2022 at 1:41 PM #8901
I found the headlight adjustment. It is on the back right side of headlight shell, tucked in there a ways. I gave it 2 turns anti-clockwise with a Phillips screwdriver, we shall see how much it moved it up. And I figured out why my speedo light defaulted to 100% brightness. I did not realize you had to start the bike after adjusting gauge brightness. -

Headlight adjustment was spot on.👍👍 ( and my pictures are cut off the bottom again, I’ll reload from work computer tmrw) -

Another pretty day out! -
Jan 21, 2023 at 10:00 PM #9455

It has been too long since I have had the GT out, (holidays, weather, visiting family) so it felt great to twist the throttle on the v-twin today. I love the powerband , and the sound out of the carbon muffler is terrific. The only pics today are of my new KLX 230. -
Jan 22, 2023 at 8:23 PM #9459
How are you liking the KLX compared to the Hyosung GT ?
To be fair it is a quiet season as most of us in the north aren’t riding too much until March , then it’s bike season all the way till autumn , i intend to make the most of it too 🙂
Meanwhile, babies stay inside getting a fix up and overhaul there and there 😉
-
Jan 22, 2023 at 9:38 PM #9462
Well Marcel, I am very content on my bike combo! I live in a unique area where anything over 60mph is a lot! Roads are very tight and twisty here, and we have many miles of amazing forest to explore. The GT 250 feels like a big grunty superbike on the road (🤔) and the KLX is my tractor for exploring waterfalls and rocky/hilly goat paths. -

Absolutely jealous , but i am loving your sceneries, you really do live in the right spots. KLX for the wilderness or bugging out 😉 , Hyosung for the fun!
Though if you’re brave, you can throw in some trail tyres on the hyosung and hold on tight! -

How many miles have you put on her so far ? And did you have to do any service ? Since we are about to enter the full swing of summer!
-
Jun 4, 2023 at 9:25 PM #10436
I only have about 1900 miles on it. I have been doing more forest roads with my other bike. I still have my valve shim kit sitting on the bench. As long as it starts well, I am putting off doing valves until (if)I take a real trip on it. Otherwise I’ll do that on a cold dreary day this autumn. I did adjust out a bunch of throttle cable slop this past week. Still on my first oil and filter change. It takes about 2 1/2 hours to do 85 miles in these parts. 🙂

That’s very small, some of us in UK can easily do 1K in one month lol. (Heavy use , so to say!) – It loves oil changes sooner than the manual states , it makes it known by how smooth everything feels from gearbox , to clutch bite etc…. Do keep an eye on the clutch plates, its a torquey little twin 😉 , around 4K max is usually a good time to change the plates unless you have upgraded ones that may last a little bit longer.
Oh, it loves to eat brakes 😉 , so carbon ceramic or sintered ebc hh is usually a good call since you drive distant places on some occassions (if not all)
-
Jun 8, 2023 at 2:10 AM #10484

I have a few things on my “ to do” list for the GT. 1) valve check/adjust 2) EBC brake pads and fresh fluid 3 ) replace the almost 7 year old OEM India tyres( wow!) I retire September 1st and fully intend to ride more often and further.

Well it is too darn cold out to ride, so I finally spooned on the Dunlop Mutants. I know Europe has had these for a few years, but they have only been available Stateside for maybe 3 years max. -
Jan 8, 2024 at 9:34 PM #12097
Nice shoes. Good lord with us folk living on an island , I envy the cleanliness of your bike. I think you secretly polish her ever sunday 😉 or i could be wrong!
Its like -0c as we speak here. What is the weather like over there?
-
Jan 9, 2024 at 1:21 PM #12101
To be fair, this is kind of my nice weather ride, and it is kept in the garage. I have only washed it a few times so far! It is the same 0 to 2 degrees C here also, and today it is pouring rain.

Ha , 2-3 more months we are all in Spring 😬 – I would have thought with the USA winter is usually confined to Michigan , NJ
San Francisco & Texas is minimum 12c all year long (i could be wrong as i never lived in US) , correct me on that one. As i know family do live in the upper north of US near NY , i can defo tell it gets icy like England -
Jan 9, 2024 at 5:52 PM #12107
I live in the coldest part of North Carolina, the far west in the mountains, so weather is completely different from even 30 miles east. My sister lives in northern New York state and it is MUCH colder and snowy there.

I finally put a wopping 95 miles on the new Dunlops, and I really like them.👍👍 -
Feb 2, 2024 at 5:48 PM #12217
What is the experience like in the rainy days ? Like does the bike:
- Twitch / fish tail if you try to lean a little ?
- Grip confidence ?
- If you tap the rear brake in rain , does it fish tail ? (i mean like a slight tap)
Tread pattern on that pic looks like it can displace a fair amount of water to be fair – I wonder how much “silica” is on the compoud for wet confidence vs the likes Michelins & Bridgestones – I have never tried Dunlops personally , always been a michelin guy since the Pilots came out haha

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, this motor is a real treat! Putter around it’s happy. Use the midrange grunt it’s happy. Rip it to red line and it’s happy. My well baffled carbon can sounds very right. The Dunlop Mutants are amazing, wet, dry, icy frost. I haven’t used Dunlops since 1982. Call me impressed!

A happy hyo owners is the one that will make sure she is treated on dates and gets all the maintenance goodies under hood to keep her going. I am happy to hear that.
I might consider the Dunlops next time but it’s hard for me to move away from Michelins at the moment as i’ve been let down by various tyre brands (UK is wet 3/4 of the year lol)

Mar 19, 2024 at 11:30 PM #12664

We had a cold snap this morning (24F) and it really didn’t warm up much in the mountains, but it was dry and very sunny. So ride we did! No traffic, amazing roads and scenery. All riding was at elevation, along rivers, lakes, forests. I had to soak in a hot shower to get the chills out. Not much for pictures today, just felt like staying in the saddle. If you look close at some of those rocks, they have icicles hanging down. -
Mar 20, 2024 at 5:43 PM #12675
I think the more you ride in the cold , the more you can see how well the tyres can handle themselves with less warm up time and roads might still have the invisible black ice ?
How did they behave ? unless you not a “spirited” rider pushing tyres to their safe limits lol. I am very curious as im still a pro-michelin guy but i might be convinced to get the mutants based on how they handle on a Hyosung (Some biker reviews always comment on their performance of tyres over a 1000cc bike, which is fine and well, but we see reviews on a sub-650cc class bike as not everyone wants to ride a 650/1000 all the time. Hell i even have a Hyosung RT125D for off roading! (125cc!)
great pictures as always , happy spring season! = Let’s hope the cold snaps stop this week, and its hot weather all the way until November lol

^ I too was a Michelin Man ( and Shinko, Metzler, Pirelli, Continental)for many years. I really am a fan of these Dunlops though! I have 750 miles on them, many damp, most all cold roads, even some funky frosty tarmac. They definitely make the GT handle much better than the OEM tyres! This is about as far as I care to lean it over on public roads. They are very confidence inspiring. My brother just put these on his Z400 Kaw and he likes them also.

I haven’t checked in for quite a while! I couldn’t pass up this nice SYM Classic 150, so I spent 2 weeks cleaning, polishing, and getting any and all maintenance caught up. Then spent 11 days in Amsterdam & Dublin. Upon return to East coast USA we were greeted by the horrific Hurricane Helene. The destruction in South Carolina, North Carolina and East Tennessee is indescribable. Our back yard alone took 2 weeks to clean up tree carnage. After riding my 19 hp KLX 230 and the 15hp SYM the GT 250 felt like a Hyabusa! snicker snicker

I guess I haven’t checked in here for a while. Shame on me. I have wore out another Dunlop Mutant rear tyre.
I may sell the spiffy GT. So either I find a buyer, or mount the new tire. It is coming up on 3 years with the GT. I usually rotate bikes at this point. Mixed emotions! -
Mar 29, 2025 at 1:35 PM #19178
Keep her Jim, i could be biased but would you think it is one of the few bikes you owned to has its own character that’s kind of like “i may retire with her and divorce the rest of the others!”
Sounds like you put a lot of miles on that rear tyre, that’s a rare thing to hear , i may get it for my other future scrambler i am looking to buy (but eh, i could always get another GT and just mount enduro tyres for some light off roading) (still gotta put a sump plate (belly pan) incase of hitting a rock!)
