Iv just bought the bike not to long ago and it’s an awesome ride… can’t go wrong. Although, I had troubles going into 1st/2nd gear from neutral. The idle is near perfect, but cuts out instantly when being put into gear. I first assumed it was the oil being low for it went into gear after a top up but now it’s continuing to give head ache after sitting for a week after my surgery. I started her up yesterday to get the cobwebs out and it’s refusing to go into gear. I’m going to bridge the wiring for the safety kick stand and take the tank off for any naked wiring and see if that works, but as of now it has a mind of its own. Would anyone know if it could be anything else?

The most likely is the side stand switch & change the oil & filter as this will cause issues with 1st-neutral-2nd with old worn oil.

Beauty. I’ll get things moving first thing tomorrow and get back with results!

Also saggy chains and worn pivots between the gear shift assemblies can do that too.
So ,
- Grease all over the metal moving parts involved with the gear linkages. Because its a GV, add a very very thin washer under the “C-CLIP” that holds the gear foot lever at the front of the bike. it will keep it straight than being wonky.
- Check chain slack is good (off the stand) and while it is also on side stand, you want the chain also straight , use a straight ruler or laser light to check.
- Squeeze the chain with your hand, if the swing arm moves or chain carrier hub moves, then consider bearings in either swing or chain carrier hub or the rubber cushions under the sprocket carrier hub.
Just tips that have also helped me maintain smooth transitions for gear changes and neutral. Sometimes its worth making the sure the “engine ARM” behind the exhaust pipe is against the sprocket cover when in neutral , then re-adjust the clutch cable at the front handle bar lever 🙂
If cable has stretched (front lever adjuster is near max or half-way), replace cable.
Worst case is just a fresh clutch system overhaul. (everything inside the clutch basket, ie. tired springs, plates, warped metal discs etc… if its been so many miles / years with the same clutch)

Awesome help! Just waiting for my partner to get back with the oil and other bibs and bobs. I’ll go down and make sure they’re all allingned. It has 16,000 kms on it so it’s still young but never can be to safe.
I’ll get back with results asap

Still nothing. Chain has abit of slack but nothing major. Iv bridged the kick stand, added new oil and filter and also looked at clutch sensor and still dosnt shift into gear. Starting to get worried it’s the transition

iv nailed it down to a faulty neutral safety switch. I adjusted and cleaned where the pin is located and it went into first. I turned the bike off and put some fairings back on and went to kick it over again… truth be told, it cut out from neutral to first/second again. I’ll replace this part and purchase a new chain. Hopefully that dose the trick! Is there any way to bypass it? Can I bridge these wires as Iv done to the kick stand?

Also, theirs is spark on neutral but no spark in gear hence why it isn’t igniting and dieing when being shifted into gear. Same case on all other gears also.

Does your bike have a “Clutch” switch at the handle bar lever ? Some GVs have it and some do not .

It sure does, I’m going to attempt to bridge that today as well. From my knowledge it works fine due to it not wanting to start up when the clutch lever is disengaged when I’m gear
