Hi everyone, I’ve got a question. Since I’ve got my bike fixed up (idled at 3500rpm) I have started to hear a specific “ticking” noise from the left side of the engine. At idle it isn’t noticeable, but over 2000rpm or so it becomes quite apparent. Apart from this the bike runs very good, has power, idles good, no other problems with it at all. Engine oil was last replaced in march 2023 and I’ve done 3000km since then. You can hear the sound in the attachment. Anyone has an idea what it might be?

Sounds like the Cam Tensioner  = I would 100% replace it , just for a peace of mind.
Also you may need to do some “valve clearances too”, especially if the valve clearances are loose, the engine will make the same “ra-tat-tat-tat” sounds almost sounding like an baby AK47 gun
But i would place my bets on the tensioner.
Also do you have a cylinder oil leak? as the middle of the rear cylinder looks dark

Thanks for the reply. The bike has 34100 km of mileage so if the previous owner/owners didn’t replace the cam tensioner, that could be the cause. I also thought it was timing related, but I didn’t know where exactly the sound could be coming from. Are the timing parts hard to find/expensive? I don’t want to put too much money into this bike, since I am soon probably doing an A2 license.
And no, I don’t have an oil leak, the carburetor was leaking fuel from the float chamber, but that has been fixed by now. It’s not dirty nor oily anymore. Kind of weird that it looks like an oil leak.

I don’t know the dealers in Poland, do you have a local hyosung dealer there?
If not, I can check if i have any stock of tensioners but you need to take pictures of your tensioners (they are behind each engine head)Â – Some tensioners will not fit , so i need to see the ones on your bike to verify as hyosung changed a few things around 2006-2008 , then again in 2008-2020
Also, ask local garage if they will help you fit tensioners and do valve clearances (they will use Suzuki Shims)
But send me an email if you want me to find parts from EU , then send to Poland
Or check eBay Poland for “old GT125” engines for spares and you can ask sellers for tensioners to deliver locally ?

There was a dealer called “Romet” which sold Hyosung bikes, but it doesn’t now since 2017, and pretty much there are no original parts available here. Some bikes are available as parts bikes, but I don’t know about the condition of the parts that I’m looking for. Maybe my mechanic can work something out, I’ve been at his shop a few times with my bike and he did a great work. I have only replaced basic things, such as a clutch link (from a suzuki gn 125) and clutch & brake levers. I don’t really want to replace anything harder than that, because I don’t want to mess up anything.
